Macclesfield War Graves Project
Cleaning the Commonwealth War Graves 2023
Year 4 will be going to clean the graves of the 17 soldiers that our school looks after on Saturday 4th November 2023. We will meet in the carpark at Macclesfield Cemetery, at the back of the Crematorium at 10 am.
We will walk to the area where are graves are and clean them using a scrubbing brush and cold water.
What to bring and wear:
- a bucket
- a scrubbing brush
- some waterproof gloves- gardening or rubber to protect your hands from the wet.
- waterproof coat, wellies or boots if it is wet underfoot.
All members of the family are welcome to join us, we need about 12 volunteers and parent helpers to come along.

As part of our project we went to the Town Hall to show our respect to the soldiers who died in World War One, World War Two and over 70 other conflicts across the world. We watched as Mayor Alift Harewood addressed the crowd.

Cleaning the War Graves at Macclesfield Cemetery
On Saturday 4th November we all met up at the Cemetery with our scrubbing brushes, buckets and gloves to wash the seventeen gravestones that we are responsible for. It didn't take too long as 'many hands make light work'!
We scrubbed the stones just using water and pulled out any weeds that were growing around the stone too.
