Equality Act
At Puss Bank School & Nursery, we firmly believe that children learn better and achieve more when they are happy and when they are stimulated by their curriculum. As a community, we have encapsulated this idea in our vision and mission :
Vision
Every Puss Bank Child will have the tools/skills to be a confident lifelong learner ready to meet the challenges and possibilities of an ever-changing world.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide a safe, happy and exciting and engaging environment where the whole school community are challenged, within a rich and varied curriculum, to fulfil their personal aspirations and to make a positive contribution to society.
This shared vision was arrived at by engaging all stakeholders in the school.
Pupil voice forms an important part of how we evaluate how well we are doing in providing an educational experience which lives up to our vision and values.
Legal Duties
As a school we welcome our duties under the Equality Act 2010. The general duties are to:
eliminate discrimination.
advance equality of opportunity.
foster good relations.
Protected Characteristics
We understand the principal of the act and the work needed to ensure that those with protected characteristics are not discriminated against and are given equality of opportunity.
A protected characteristic under the act covers the groups listed below:
Age
Disability
Race
Sex
Gender Reassignment
Maternity and Pregnancy
Religion and Belief
Sexual Orientation
Marriage and Civil Partnership
In order to meet our general duties listed above, the law requires us to do some specific duties to demonstrate how we meet the general duties. These are to:
publish equality information - to demonstrate compliance with the general duty across its functions.
prepare and publish equality objectives.
To do this we have used the monitoring information gathered by the school on admissions, attendance, attainment, exclusions and parental involvement to determine our focus for our equality objectives.
