“Creativity takes courage” Henri Matisse
Intent
At Puss Bank School and Nursery, it is our intent to engage, inspire and challenge all pupils in Art and Design. We provide opportunities to encourage pupils to experiment, invent and create their own works of art and craft and how art can reflect our country, culture, and history. We strive to provide opportunities for children to not only produce creative work but to reflect upon this and develop their work further.
When our children leave Puss Bank School and Nursery at the end of Key Stage 2, we want them to have an appreciation of how art and design not only enables us to develop creativity, but it also has the power to inspire.
At Puss Bank School and Nursery, we believe in the importance of celebrating success. We endeavor to provide opportunities where children can celebrate their achievements by presenting their work to wider audiences.
Implementation
We teach the National Curriculum, supported by a clear progression. This ensures that skills and knowledge are developed year on year and sequenced appropriately. Teachers know and understand what learning has gone before and what will come after, which ensures long lasting learning.
All pupils will produce creative work and become increasingly proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture, and other artistic techniques. We can evaluate and analyse creative works and build up a language of art. We explore the work of great artists, crafts people and designers and form opinions and discuss their work critically.
Impact
There is ongoing teacher assessment to ensure that the children are keeping up with the pace of the curriculum and achieving our goals.
Children will retain previous learning and will be able to make links between their current learning and learning that has taken place before.
Children will be able to use a wide range of medium.
Children will make informed choices when creating independent pieces.
Children will confidently discuss their work and their choices, commenting on what effects they intended to create.
Children will discuss how their work has been influenced by specific artists/styles.
Children will develop knowledge and skills which will enable them to critically evaluate their work and improve this.
