Computing

“Sometimes it is the people no one can imagine anything of who do the things no one can imagine.”

Intent

At Puss Bank School and Nursery, we want to model and educate our pupils on how to use technology positively, responsibly and safely. We want learners to discuss, react and appreciate the impact computing has on their learning, development and well-being. Technology is everywhere and will play a pivotal part in students' lives.

Implementation

We teach Computing lessons through Purple Mash giving the children an understanding of key computing skills that will equip them for the digital world they live in.Lessons in coding are taught to help children to develop the knowledge to design, write & debug programs. We learn that a spreadsheet is a computer application which allows users to organise, analyse, and store data in a table. We then demonstrate the application of these skills to real life situations e.g. catering for a party.Children are taught how computers can be used store and organise data. This can then be searched to locate set information. We also teach children how software can be used to create different entertainment e.g. creating music or making computer animations. Our teaching builds on prior learning in the previous years and links forward to possible jobs e.g. using a simplified version of CAD that is used in the world of architecture.

Impact

·Be enthusiastic and confident in their approach towards computing.

·Have a secure understanding of the positive applications and specified risks associated with a broad range

of digital technology.

·Present as competent and adaptable Computational Thinkers who are able to use identified concepts and

approaches in all of their learning.

·Be able to identify the source of problems and work with perseverance to ‘debug’ them.

·Create and evaluate their own project work.

·An understanding of computing related industry and careers.

·High aspirations, which will see them through to further study, work and a successful adult life.
